Our main giving partner is a British charity called Mary's Meals. They run school feeding programmes in some of the worlds most deprived communities.
They currently feed a staggering one million child around the world every school day! WOW!
School meals have so many powerful benefits. When children are given a nutritious, free meal in school their attendance and concentration increases. A school lunch might be the only proper meal many children receive all day, and often they will save some of that meal to take home to help provide dinner for their family.
Mary’s Meals was founded buy a Scottish fishing farmer called Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow.
Magnus is a pretty inspirational guy and was recently announced as one of Times magazines 100 most influential people on the planet. I met him at his recent book launch in London.
They started their school feeding efforts in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world with one of the worst child malnutrition rates in Africa. They’ve since expanded their programme of delivering school meals across Africa, Asia and South America.
