If you’ve been following our business over the last year you’ll probably know by now that we are supporting child feeding efforts in Malawi. With each teddy bear we sell we feed a school child in Malawi for a full school year.
Right now, in Malawi an awful food crisis is unfolding. A horrible combination of floods and drought has devastated crops. In April 2016, the countries president Peter Mutharika declared a national state of emergency. Millions are in need of help. Families are being forced to eat meals of leaves and what little else they can find. Some people have died after eating poisonous wild plants in their search for food for their families.
For many children the food that our main giving partner Mary’s Meals provides is their only meal of the day, and that meal is often taken home to be shared with their families.
It's crazy that in 2016 food shortages are still killing millions of people around the world. This is a reminder that we as a business have to do more, and hopefully we can inspire others to take action and support people around the world.
Last year we wrote a blog post about 4 epic charities that are feeding the world, feel free to check it out and share the work of these organisations that are truly making a difference.
